A Superposition of Eigenstates

Author’s Note

I’ve always had a liking for the Many-Worlds Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. If you stick around long enough you’ll see the idea crop up once or twice in my fiction. To be, or to be in a parallel world, that is the question.

This story is one such tale: what if anything and everything is possible, somewhere? What if there are no absolutes, that every decision, and every outcome are true in one universe or another?

And given this, what might that look like from the point-of-view of an expectant mother being told the sex of their baby after their 20 week ultrasound scan?

This wee story tries to get a feel for the possibilities in a humanistic way rather than from a rigourous quantum mathematics proof. The original title of this story was ‘Shrödinger’s Baby”, so if you know anything of his thought experiment, you’ll kind of see what I was aiming for.
