Author’s Note
The phrase that inspired this story was the famous “kill your darlings” spliced with the word ‘darkling’: giving me “kill your darklings”. With a ‘k’.
I ran with it. I did not know where the story was going, where it had come from, or how I might get to the end. It led me down a dark and terrible path. It surprised and scared me so much that I am reluctant to show it at all. I think there’s something interesting here, something true.
I like it when people get freaked out by my stories, but sometimes I freak out myself.
I don’t know what happens next, and right now, I don’t want to.
